RJLF Frees Wrongfully Detained Immigrant in Latest Pro Bono Victory
Reichman Jorgensen Lehman & Feldberg LLP (RJLF) has secured another significant pro bono victory, marking our third pro bono win in just six months. In the federal case J.R. v. Genalo et al (Case No. 1:26-cv-01512-HG) in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, Judge Hector Gonzalez granted the habeas petition of RJLF’s client, a Venezuelan national and detained immigrant, on March 19, 2026.
The client, who had been wrongfully detained for over six months and was suffering from untreated debilitating health issues, was released from custody without the need for a hearing due to the strength of RJLF’s position and its alignment with the judge’s prior rulings.
The RJLF team included Michael Feldberg, Michael Matulewicz-Crowley, Brian Baran, Zach Jacobs, and Letitia Chai, in collaboration with The Legal Aid Society of New York.
At a time of national crisis, RJLF continues to demonstrate our commitment to advocating for those in need.
