RJLF Wins Freedom for Detained Immigrant in Pro Bono Federal Case
Reichman Jorgensen Lehman & Feldberg LLP (RJLF) has achieved another major victory, securing the release of their client, L.M.G., a Honduran national and detained immigrant, in the pro bono federal case M.G. v. Almodovar et al (Case No. 1:26-cv-00890-MMG) in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. On February 20, 2026, Judge Margaret M. Garnett granted L.M.G.’s habeas petition, challenging his unlawful detention. The Court ordered the government to transport L.M.G. to the Southern District of New York and release him from custody by February 27, 2026.
The team included Michael Feldberg, Estizer Smith, James Gordon, Natalie Griffin, and Alex Williams, with Estizer delivering the winning oral argument.
RJLF collaborated with The Legal Aid Society of New York on this case, marking their second pro bono victory in recent months. In December 2025, the firm, also in partnership with The Legal Aid Society of New York, secured the release of L.R.C., a Venezuelan immigrant with no criminal record, from Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center. Judge Donnelly (E.D.N.Y.) ordered L.R.C. to be released within 24 hours, ensured the return of his personal property, and ruled that he could not be detained again without due process.
These cases highlight RJLF’s dedication to justice and their willingness to take on pro bono cases that make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
