Estizer Smith focuses her practice on intellectual property and commercial litigation.
Before joining RJLF, Estizer clerked for the Honorable Cheryl Ann Krause of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
During law school, Estizer gained hands-on experience as a summer associate at Hecker Fink LLP and Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP, and as a legal extern with the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division. She earned her J.D. from Stanford Law School, where she was a member of the Supreme Court Litigation Clinic and worked to protect First Amendment rights and the rights of the accused at the certiorari and merits stages. While at Stanford, Estizer also received the Gerald Gunther Prize for Outstanding Performance in Legal Ethics and served as Co-President of the Black Law Students Association, Articles Editor for the Stanford Law Review, and Executive Editor of the Stanford Journal of Civil Rights & Civil Liberties.
Before pursuing her legal career, Estizer worked at Democracy Fund, where she led a press freedom strategy to protect journalists through legal support and improved access to insurance. She also launched a major initiative to fund law school clinics focused on First Amendment rights, media access, and government transparency. At Impactual, she oversaw grant-making initiatives aimed at increasing voter registration and turnout among marginalized communities.
