Law360 Features Nathan Mammen's Joining RJLF
Law360 featured Nathan Mammen’s joining Reichman Jorgensen Lehman & Feldberg LLP as a partner in our Washington, D.C. office. Mammen brings more than 20 years of experience and leads teams in complex, bet-the-company intellectual property matters.
In an interview with Law360, Mammen said he was a key member of the briefing team for both federal circuit appeals and the petition for writ of certiorari before the U.S. Supreme Court in Amgen v. Sanofi.
Reflecting on that experience, he shared that working on a case before the high court while juggling federal circuit cases taught him to think more about "the end game" of cases—which many trial attorneys consider to be a jury verdict. But preparing for other "end games," like getting verdicts affirmed and obtaining necessary results on appeal, requires experience with appellate work:
"You start thinking about what you need, what will be important, … What you need later may not always be what you need now, and vice versa," Mammen said.
He explained his move to RJLF was driven by his desire to join "the best in the business," having followed the firm's work throughout his career.
"It's pretty remarkable, … They had a vision, started the firm, built it, and within seven years it's become what it has and had the successes that it's had," Mammen said.
"My prior firms were awesome places, I learned a lot and value the people there, it was just, this was a unique opportunity to join this team and something that was exactly the fit I was looking for," he said.
Managing Partner Christine Lehman told Law360, "We have a lot of appeals pending now, more cases that we've litigated over our first several years, so now the appellate practice is growing [in] importance, both for our own homegrown cases, as well as sort of expanding beyond that."
