Jeff Leung is an experienced litigator focusing on complex commercial and intellectual property litigation. As a registered USPTO attorney and former software engineer, Jeff leverages his technical background to advise high-tech companies, start-ups, and entrepreneurs on protecting and enforcing their intellectual property rights.

Recognized by Best Lawyers® among the “Ones to Watch” in intellectual property litigation, Jeff has successfully managed a wide range of commercial, patent, copyright, and business tort disputes in federal and state courts, before federal agencies, and on appeal in the Federal Circuit and Second Circuit Courts of Appeals.

Before joining RJLF, Jeff practiced at Debevoise & Plimpton, where he gained extensive experience in patent litigation, and spent more than a decade at Arent Fox Schiff.

Jeff earned his J.D. from Rutgers Law School and went on to clerk for the Hon. Eileen Bransten and the Hon. Richard B. Lowe, III in the Commercial Division of the New York Supreme Court. He also holds an M.S. in Software Engineering from Santa Clara University and a B.S. in Managerial Economics from the University of California, Davis.

  • Defended MarketDial and its founders in a high-profile trade secret lawsuit brought by Applied Predictive Technologies, a Fortune 500-backed competitor. Secured summary judgment.

  • Represented SST against one of the largest semiconductor manufacturers in the world in trade secret dispute involving embedded SuperFlash technology.

  • Represented Microchip in patent infringement litigation against Aptiv, asserting claims and defending against counterclaims involving USB technology.

  • Represented Vudu in a patent infringement matter involving video streaming technology. Obtained dismissal with prejudice at the pleadings stage based on successful Section 101 ineligibility argument.

  • Defended Bridgelux against Everlight Electronics, a multi-billion-dollar Taiwanese company, in a patent infringement matter involving LED packaging technology. Obtained a favorable settlement.

  • Represented Tranxition against Lenovo in asserting patent directed to transitioning computer configuration settings.

  • Defended Scosche in multiple patent infringement litigations involving USB and charging technologies.

  • Represented Litebook Company in enforcing patent portfolio covering light therapy technology against multiple targets.

  • Represented Rothy’s in multiple design patent infringement litigations involving novel shoe designs.

  • Defended inventor in dispute against Aerpio Pharmaceuticals in arbitration involving licensing and patent ownership. claims

  • Counseled Kudelski on identifying patents to assert in a portfolio covering video content delivery against video streaming targets.

  • Counseled Munchkin on potential patent infringement claims against a competitor offering baby bathing product.

  • Defended a Dutch software company in a trademark dispute against a billion-dollar U.S. software company. Obtained a favorable settlement in which the client paid no money.

  • Represented Exurbia, owner of IP for the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise, in litigation involving Lanham Act and unfair competition claims.

  • Represented SiriusXM before the Copyright Royalty Board in rate-setting proceedings.

  • Represented New York dental device distributor in a complex cross-border dispute involving breach of contract claims. Obtained a favorable settlement against international defendants.

  • Represented Veolia in complex commercial litigation involving breach of contract, fraud, and unfair competition claims. Obtained a favorable settlement.

  • Defended Tanis against Smashmallow in breach of contract dispute. Obtained new trial on damages, leading to favorable settlement despite a jury verdict awarding $21 million in damages.
